Stratocaster pickup set by Q Pickups designed to emulate the iconic tones of Mr. David Gilmour’s legendary Black Strat, as well as The Edge‘s distinctive sound from U2.
In 1976, during the recording of Pink Floyd’s album “Animals,” David installed a DiMarzio FS-1 in the bridge position, which was paired with the early ’70s Fender middle and neck pickups already in the guitar. This configuration was utilized for the following years and throughout the recording sessions for “The Wall”,up until 1979. A high-output bridge pickup offers increased midrange, sustain, and bite, perfectly complementing the classic vintage Strat pickups. This configuration is highly versatile, suitable for everything from pristine cleans to heavily distorted guitar tones.
Another renowned guitarist who utilized the same set of pickups is The Edge from U2. The Edge’s vintage Stratocaster, particularly the one used during the recording of “The Joshua Tree,” featured the same combination of pickups. In the mid-1980s he was looking for a fatter, more powerful sound compared to the standard single-coil pickups, and the FS-1 provided more output, which helped achieve the tone heard on many of U2’s iconic tracks.
